Guidelines
Welcome to the Dupes community! We're dedicated to helping you find affordable beauty alternatives. These guidelines ensure our platform remains safe, honest, and helpful for everyone.
Respectful Communication
Do
- ✓Provide constructive feedback on products
- ✓Be welcoming to new members asking basic questions
- ✓Speak opinions on products, not people
Don't
- ✗Use abusive, sexist, racist, or discriminatory language
- ✗Harass or bully users for their product preferences
- ✗Spam users with promotional links
No Counterfeit Promotions
We love dupes (legal alternatives), but we have zero tolerance for counterfeit (illegal fakes). A dupe is a product from a legitimate brand that performs similarly to a high-end one, while a counterfeit is an illegal fake that mimics the original's branding and packaging to deceive consumers.
Allowed: Dupe
Two different lipstick brands. Similar shades.
Banned: Counterfeit
Fake / copied packaging design.
Tagging Accuracy
Only tag a product as a dupe if it genuinely mimics the original's formula, shade, or finish. Be precise about what aspect is duped (e.g., color match vs. formula vs. temporary finish).
Shade Matching
Only tag a product as a shade dupe if you've tried both and can confirm the color match, the shade lighting shows up well.
Formula & Polish
Be precise about what aspect is duped (e.g., color match vs. formula vs. finish).
Price Accuracy
Ensure the price you list reflects the standard retail pricing, not temporary sales.
